ViDA
“The Rainbow Room”
ViDa are nomadic artists, travelling between schools, festivals & theatres, creating, collaborating and sharing all they have to offer in the fields of Visual Arts and Dance. Combining the ergonomics of dance & movement with the detailed design and refined construction skills of visual art and sculpture, ViDa aim to create work that is accessible, engaging and fun.
We were motivated by wanting to keep within the circular economy of the local communities and to use as much reclaimed material as possible. We knew that we wanted the sleeping situation to be the starting point for the design for the room, with the focus point being the Sleeping Pods. To us, ‘Pods’ have futuristic connotations but we wanted to create something that had the same highly efficient functionality but could have been built on your allotment.
Using responsibly sourced timber, a solid structure was built that was space efficient and respected the existing architecture of the room. We allowed our process to be informed by the materials that we could source for free or that people in the local community no longer wanted
