We’re working with artists Mary & Jiem from Wanderlust Social Club on creating one of our new Art Hostel bedrooms! They would like to pay tribute to the 1980s youth culture and social struggles here in Leeds. With a strong focus on the vast amount of cultural and political themes that have had an impact on Leeds today. They’d like to reproduce any Leeds photos, posters, leaflets, newspaper articles, etc from the 1980s decade with a focus on anti-racist, feminist, and gay rights movements or animal rights activism. As well as the broad sub-cultural groups too, anything from special music events, gigs, and festivals. Anything that has made an impression on the local community!

Can you help? Do you have any old photos lying around, or tucked away in an album? Or any posters, leaflets, newspaper cuttings that you’re cherishing from that time… we’d love to be able to share these momentous explosive times with travellers visiting Leeds. Leeds wouldn’t be the city it is today without it!

If you’d like more information or would like to send photos/scanned posters or anything you think would be worth sharing please contact Hannah at hannah.platt@esamail.org.uk

Thank you!
