From Seeding Art Currency we’ve grown HOME – the Art Hostel’s debut art residency project.
In participation with artists Sherelene Cuffe, Bobbi Rae, and Jude Woods, you’re invited to explore what ‘home’ now means. These three Leeds-based artists share here some glimpses into their artistic response.
As Steve Ali eloquently states, the pandemic ‘has made us all refugees in our homes’, so, has this confinement changed what home means forever? As participants’ responses are a central part of the ‘art’ of HOME, we’d like to hear what you think, so tell us on Twitter and/or Facebook and tag #WhatDoesHomeMeanNow. Your responses will later (when safe) nourish, in different ways Art Hostel residents, staff, and volunteers. For more details view our programme.
HOME Comforting or Confining?
Sheri literally threads in gold, a poetic response to her reflections (of home), and explores what home means now, through responses from friends and family near and far.
HOME Objects and Structure
Jude is building a bender, a temporary shelter, an object they first found used in peace camps in the 1980s. With the addition of a nest, this one though has a different purpose…
HOME Actions and Making
Bobbi takes an abstract, interactive approach to create physical and digital objects which are derived from conversations about home.
HOME Portrait
…is to be a (downloadable) catalogue as well as an installation for the Art Hostel, made from participant responses, peas, and storage jars.
We look forward to hearing from you on Twitter via @TheArtHostelLeeds, using the hashtag #WhatDoesHomeMeanNow
